OPEN HEART SURGERY
Since 1992, Westmoreland Regional Hospital has offered the only open heart surgery program in Westmoreland County. And one which rivals that of any major city hospital.
Patients no longer have to travel great distances to receive top surgical expertise. They can now undergo surgery, recovery and rehabilitation close to the comfort of their own homes.
The Heartcenter's seasoned cardiac surgeons are skilled in all aspects of cardiac and thoracic surgery, including short- and long-term support of diseased hearts. They also perform
pacemaker and automatic defibrillator implantation, evaluation and follow-up. And most surgical
procedures are performed using minimally invasive techniques that can dramatically reduce patient
discomfort and shorten hospital stays as well.
- All aspects of cardiac and thoracic surgery
- Coronary bypass grafting
- Cardiac valve replacement/repair
- Thoracoabdominal and thoracic aneurysm repair
- Treatment for benign and malignant diseases of the
lungs, esophagus and chest wall
Our surgeons have developed a multi-disciplinary program for the treatment of lung and esophageal cancers as well as performing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. They also are capable of implanting artificial surgical devices for support of the failing heart. Our surgeons are
experienced in minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopic nissen fundoplation for the
treatment of heartburn.
